Canadian mining and processing company Mason Graphite has positive test results on a spherical graphite pilot batch of battery-grade graphite materials for lithium-ion batteries. The battery-grade graphite materials are used in electric vehicles and other applications.

Mason Graphite, the NRC and Corem worked together to develop conversion processes that will generate these battery-grade materials. This innovation has been tested at a pilot scale by Mason Graphite and Corem.

Twenty experts from Corem have developed concentration processes and chemical purification of graphite to achieve this quality of material. This collaborative project was a finalist at the 2019 ADRIQ Innovation gala.
